Member Information
Doula is a Greek word meaning
“birth attendant”. Doulas understands the physiology of birth
and the emotional needs of a women in labor. She also assist
the mom and her partner in preparing, educating and carrying
out their plans for the birth. The Doulas develops a caring
and consistent relationship with the mom and family in
preparation for the powerful experience of childbirth. Doulas
meet with the mom and family at her home during her pregnancy,
birthing location, and after the baby is born. The doula is by
the mom‘s side for the entire labor and stays 1-2 hours after
the birth of the baby or when the mom and family has been
fully cared for. During labor the doula provides emotional
support, physical comfort measures, and assistance to the mom
in getting the information that she needs to make an informed
decisions.
